Apple has released the next generation of the iPad and have named it iPad 2.
The iPad 2 has the same size 9.7″ screen as it’s predecessor but now sports both a front facing camera as well as a rear facing camera that will also record 720p HD video which also means that Facetime is now available for the iPad 2.
A new dual-core A5 processor yields significant performance gains of approximately 2x faster and 9x the graphics performance. Video output to 1080p is now available as an option as well.
The iPad 2 is about 1/3rd slimmer and 15% lighter than the original iPad. The construction lends to a very rigid, sturdy, and comfortable to hold. Both black and white color models will be available.
Even with all of the performance gains and slimmer housing, the iPad 2 will provide 10 hours of battery life.
A new magnetic cover has been designed to semi-fold and roll up and act as stand (similar to how the original iPad cover converts to a stand).The iPad 2 detects when the cover is open and instantly wakes from sleep. It also detects when the cover is placed on the display and instantly puts it to sleep. There are 10 color choices to choose from.
The pricing has been posted to the Apple.com website and will be shipping out on March 11, 2011.
