Everyone knows that one of the biggest shopping days of the year is Black Friday and Apple has posted a teaser of the special shopping day.
After the Tech Talk training from November, many of you walked away asking yourself, “Am I a PC or am I Mac?”
For many of your I had made a recommendation that you go to the Apple store and take a look for yourself as to the fit and finish and overall quality that the Macs had to offer. Additionally, for those of your who wan/needed to run Windows for those pesky situations where you are required to run Microsoft Internet Explorer to render a specific website properly you can always run VMWare. However, please remember that you will need someone technically capable to install Windows and you will need to now maintain both your Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems, which can be quite time consuming.
If any of you are out there contemplating one of the new Apple MacBook, MacBook Pros, or the brand new MacBook Air, keep in mind that some discounts might be coming your way soon!
Apple has released their newest update iOS 3.2.2 for iPads. This update appears to be solely focussed on patching a security vulnerability associated with viewing malicious PDF files. This security vulnerability was identified that when visiting a webpage and loading a simple PDF file it may open up total control of your iPad. The security vulnerability affected any device running iOS 3.1.2 and higher.
This security vulnerability is easily exploitable. For those wishing to “Jailbreak” their iPad, this security vulnerability was used to simply the process of jailbreaking the iPad by simply going to a website address.
For those of you who have already jailbroken your iPad be aware that you will lose your jailbreak, unlock and any other non-authorized modifications after installing the 3.2.2 update.
To get the new iOS 3.2.2 update download and install through iTunes.
The Apple iPad Case is designed to fit very slug with the iPad. It is a very slim and sleek and very lightweight. The case is made from a soft microfiber material and has reinforcement panels to help keeps its structure.
The thin “cover” over the iPad glass folds a full 180 degrees around itself allowing you to hold your iPad both in landscape or portrait mode. Additionally, there is a gap in the reinforcement panels creating a seam in the front cover allowing you to create an angled stand using just the case for use with landscape mode. There is a tab located on the back which you tuck the lip of the cover into to “lock” into place.
The angled stand provides you the perfect angle when sitting down and typing on your iPad screen with it on your lap. Additionally, the angled stand position works well while the iPad is on a desk, providing you a nice angle to view and type on the screen.
With the cover “locked” into the back you can position your iPad in additional positions making use of your iPad as a digital picture frame. For landscape mode set your iPad on the spline of the stand and for portrait mode set your iPad upright.
The cost is $39.00 and can be picked up at most Apple stores or ordered online. There are holes for headphone jack, dock connector port, and on/off and volume buttons.
All in all, I really love the Apple iPad Case and think it is a great mix between protection, function, and portability
The iPhone 4 pre-order was made available today. Were you able to get one?
If you were like me you went to the Apple website and tried… and tried… and tried, only to receive the “Your request couldn’t be processed.” The Apple’s online pre-order system used an eligibility check for existing AT&T customers, which appears to have been the cause of the issue. Additional problems arose for users who attempted to pre-order using the Apple retail store software from the App Store and found the software hung up at a “processing” screen while checking eligibility for their upgrade.
Even with all of the “processing” issues, the pre-orders for the iPhone 4 stopped from the AT&T website as of around 1:30pm Pacific from the AT&T website. So I guess in between all of the problems there were people that were able to get their hold on the prized iPhone 4.
As if the problems of today is not bad enough rumors have been circulated that a potential AT&T security breach worse than the one encountered days before with the iPad 3G email addresses being leaked. AT&T reports it has been unable to reproduce the issue but users are reporting that they are logging into their AT&T accounts only to find out they are looking at someone else’s account information. Talk about a case of “when it rains, it pours.”
Steve Jobs announced the new iPhone 4 at the WWDC keynote today in San Francisco. In addition to the next generation iPhone, the new operating system has been renamed from iPhone 4 OS to iOS 4 and was was demonstrated with new apps including Netflix for the iPhone, FarmVille, and Guitar Hero. Personally speaking, I won’t be using any of those apps. Well, maybe Netflix while waiting for a flight, but more than likely I’ll watch it on my iPad. The iPhone 4 camera is being updated to 5 megapixels and now includes a flash. The entire body will be 24% thinner and made entirely from stainless steel and glass. The screen will be of higher resolution and will be much shaper than previous generations. Lastly, one of the major surprises is that the iPhone 4 will include FaceTime, video conferencing using the iPhone calling functionality. The front-facing camera is designed especially for video calls and the technology is being released for developers to add FaceTime in 3rd party applications, such as IM clients.
More important with the iOS 4 are the new features that like true multi-tasking (including 3rd party apps) and folders for apps organization. Email is being updated which will allow you to view messages from all of your email accounts in a single, integrated inbox. Messages will be threaded (similar to Gmail and Google Apps mail).
Some very large and very exciting news for the iPhone/iPad community. The iOS 4 will be made available for iPads later this year and since the iPad release in April 2010 there have been 2,000,000 sold to date.
