Apple Black Friday Teaser

On November 22, 2010, in Uncategorized, by Tei Baishiki

Everyone knows that one of the biggest shopping days of the year is Black Friday and Apple has posted a teaser of the special shopping day.

After the Tech Talk training from November, many of you walked away asking yourself, “Am I a PC or am I Mac?”

For many of your I had made a recommendation that you go to the Apple store and take a look for yourself as to the fit and finish and overall quality that the Macs had to offer. Additionally, for those of your who wan/needed to run Windows for those pesky situations where you are required to run Microsoft Internet Explorer to render a specific website properly you can always run VMWare. However, please remember that you will need someone technically capable to install Windows and you will need to now maintain both your Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems, which can be quite time consuming.

If any of you are out there contemplating one of the new Apple MacBook, MacBook Pros, or the brand new MacBook Air, keep in mind that some discounts might be coming your way soon!

Apple Wireless Keyboard Review

On June 25, 2010, in Accessories, by Tei Baishiki

The Apple Wireless Keyboard is a wireless keyboard utilizing Bluetooth technology which connects to iPads, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4G, and Macs. It has a slim and sleek design and follows Apple’s stylish and simplistic design principles.

The slim and low profile enclosure is made of anodized aluminum and the keys are crisp and very responsive. In addition to the standard keys the top row consists of options for screen brightness, volume control, play/pause, eject, Exposé, and Dashboard. This keyboard, being wireless, is optimal for travel with your iPad if you need to type something of long length and you are not comfortable with the onscreen keyboard. Additionally, the Apple Wireless Keyboard is one of the slimmest and smallest full-sized keyboard I have seen and it slips nicely into your briefcase or small enough to carry with your iPad.

The Apple Wireless Keyboard runs on two AA batteries and automatically powers itself off to conserve battery and will instantly turn back on when you start typing again. There is a discreet on/off button on the right hand side of the enclosure for when you are away from your desk for extended periods of time.

The cost is $69.00 and is available at most Apple stores as well as online at the Apple website.

Connecting the Apple Wireless Keyboard to the iPad is simple. With the batteries installed in the keyboard, go the “Settings” of your iPad and click on “General.” You will see “Bluetooth” as an option. If the setting is not turned on, enable it now. Now turn on your Apple Wireless Keyboard by pressing and holding the on/off button for about a second until a green light turns on in the top right corner of the keyboard. Your Apple Wireless Keyboard will appear in the list of available devices to connect to. My Apple Wireless Keyboard comes up with a custom name “Tei’s Keyboard” because I had set a custom name when I connected the keyboard to my Mackbook Pro and the iPad recognizes the saved name and displays it for your convenience. You will then be prompted to type in the passkey displayed on the screen and press return. After doing so you will see your keyboard has connected.

Now that your Apple Wireless Keyboard has connected to your iPad you can you use keyboard to type anywhere the onscreen keyboard of the iPad used to come up. The eject button on the keyboard will raise and lower the onscreen keyboard on the iPad. Additionally, the top row of keys for brightness, play/pause, and volume are fully functional as well.

iPhone 4 & iOS 4

On June 7, 2010, in iOS 4, by Tei Baishiki

Steve Jobs announced the new iPhone 4 at the WWDC keynote today in San Francisco. In addition to the next generation iPhone, the new operating system has been renamed from iPhone 4 OS to iOS 4 and was was demonstrated with new apps including Netflix for the iPhone, FarmVille, and Guitar Hero. Personally speaking, I won’t be using any of those apps. Well, maybe Netflix while waiting for a flight, but more than likely I’ll watch it on my iPad. The iPhone 4 camera is being updated to 5 megapixels and now includes a flash. The entire body will be 24% thinner and made entirely from stainless steel and glass. The screen will be of higher resolution and will be much shaper than previous generations. Lastly, one of the major surprises is that the iPhone 4 will include FaceTime, video conferencing using the iPhone calling functionality. The front-facing camera is designed especially for video calls and the technology is being released for developers to add FaceTime in 3rd party applications, such as IM clients.

More important with the iOS 4 are the new features that like true multi-tasking (including 3rd party apps) and folders for apps organization. Email is being updated which will allow you to view messages from all of your email accounts in a single, integrated inbox. Messages will be threaded (similar to Gmail and Google Apps mail).

Some very large and very exciting news for the iPhone/iPad community. The iOS 4 will be made available for iPads later this year and since the iPad release in April 2010 there have been 2,000,000 sold to date.
