At last, a Verizon iPhone

On January 11, 2011, in iPhone 4, by Tei Baishiki

On February 25, 2007, the first advertisement announcing the iPhone aired during the 79th Academy Awards on ABC.

Nearly 4 years later, at the Verizon press conference , Tim Cook, COO of Apple stated that they are pleased to provide the iPhone to Verizon’s 93 millions customers. The iPhone 4 will be available on the CDMA network, not LTE. Talks apparently started back in 2008 to bring the iPhone to Verizon.

According to Verizon’s website the Verizon iPhone 4 will be available on February 3, 2011 for existing Verizon customers online, and February 10, 2011 for everyone and priced at $199.99 for the 16GB model.

The Verizon iPhone 4 will be able to connect 5 Wi-Fi devices to the phone, which is unlike the AT&T model. Additionally, there is an antenna design change, which is intended to fix the infamous “death grip” drop call issues.

Finally a Verizon iPhone?

On January 10, 2011, in iPhone 4, by Tei Baishiki

The rumors are flying all over the news. Verizon may soon have the Apple iPhone 4 available for sale, with some reporting Verizon to make the announcement on tomorrow!

BGR.com estimates the Verizon iPhone 4 to be available between February 3rd through February 6th.

AT&T has been offering HUGE incentives to lock consumers into a 2 year contract with their recent $49 iPhone 3GS price for upgrade-eligible AT&T customers.

So… Verizon iPhone 4 or stay with AT&T and wait for iPhone 5?

According to appleinsider.com Apple is expected to hold an event by Valentine’s Day to announce a Verizon iPhone.

It makes sense to wait until February. AT&T has been making a last ditch stand for sales. iPhones have been selling for the holidays at RadioShack and at Target and given the 30 day return policy, AT&T would have been smart to request/require Apple to wait until after 30 days after their sales to announce a Verizon iPhone in the case that some would return their AT&T phone for a Verizon iPhone. I know I would!

I am very excited to hear about the Verizon iPhone. Regardless to whether or not the Verizon iPhone will support simultaneous voice and data I will more than likely get a Verizon iPhone. I still use an iPhone 3G and it is getting quite painful to use. Its been about a year since I have been due for my 2 year upgrade but I was banking on the Verizon based iPhone.

Would you switch to a Verizon iPhone if you were me?

iPhone 4 – Worth the Wait?

On June 24, 2010, in iPhone 4, by Tei Baishiki

Apple’s iPhone 4 was released today and while the lines formed for people waiting to get their hands on the new iPhone, those who pre-ordered them online have a slightly different story to tell than from that of previous iPhone releases.

The first reports of problems with the iPhone comes in several complaints. The first is reports of yellow bands and yellow spots on the display. Apparently, some Apple stores are treating this as a residue from the manufacturing process which will clear up within a few days. Other Apple stores are replacing the units outright. Some users are complaining instead of the yellow dots, they have white spots in a layout resembling a constellation of stars. There has been no office word from Apple at this time.

The next type of complaint of the iPhone 4 comes in the reception of calls. Apparently, holding the iPhone 4 in the lower left hand corner of the phone with your hand may cause attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas and to avoid gripping it in a way that covers both the sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of the many available cases. Real nice answer to a problem with reception… don’t hold your phone that way. This ought to be real interesting to see how long this answer holds out and how big of a problem it really is.

Although I fully intend on going to an Apple store as soon as the white iPhones are available (currently estimated mid to late July) I now intend on fully inspecting the phone in great detail before leaving the store.

iPhone 4 Pre-Order Disaster

On June 16, 2010, in iPhone 4, by Tei Baishiki

The iPhone 4 pre-order was made available today. Were you able to get one?

If you were like me you went to the Apple website and tried… and tried… and tried, only to receive the “Your request couldn’t be processed.” The Apple’s online pre-order system used an eligibility check for existing AT&T customers, which appears to have been the cause of the issue. Additional problems arose for users who attempted to pre-order using the Apple retail store software from the App Store and found the software hung up at a “processing” screen while checking eligibility for their upgrade.

Even with all of the “processing” issues, the pre-orders for the iPhone 4 stopped from the AT&T website as of around 1:30pm Pacific from the AT&T website. So I guess in between all of the problems there were people that were able to get their hold on the prized iPhone 4.

As if the problems of today is not bad enough rumors have been circulated that a potential AT&T security breach worse than the one encountered days before with the iPad 3G email addresses being leaked. AT&T reports it has been unable to reproduce the issue but users are reporting that they are logging into their AT&T accounts only to find out they are looking at someone else’s account information. Talk about a case of “when it rains, it pours.”
